Dear Mrs. Boutilier,
My capstone project is on Roberto Clemente. I joined a committee that celebrates his life and who he was every year. Me and 4 other girls are also in this project with the committee. Our event is set to take place March 6, 2022 at the Dunkin Donuts park in Hartford at 2pm. We have made t-shirts, mugs and pins to sell for fundraising for our event . To promote the event we have been going to radio stations and TV stations. Doing this project has been a great experience because I am doing things that completely get me out of my comfort zone and I love it. We do this event to educate and inform people about who Roberto Clemente was and how he gave back to his Hispanic community.
My research question is why is the life of Roberto Clemente worth commemorating? Roberts's life is worth commemorating because of how passionate he was about his family, helping others, and his Puerto Rican heritage. While Roberto was an amazing baseball player he also helped the unprivileged he held free baseball clinics in Puerto Rico for children. He also donated food supplies to help communities. When Roberto passed away in 1972 he was on his way to Nicaragua to take medical supplies and food to the people who had been hit by an earthquake that week. His passion for helping the underprivileged is why he is remembered today.
I will be using my sources and using Sammy Vega as my mentor for this project because he has been a part of the Roberto Clemente committee since the beginning this year is the 10th anniversary of this event. Sammy’s phone number is (860)978-7412 and his email is [email protected] . When I think my learning stretches out it is when I went to the radio station and the Tv station because it made me get out of my comfort zone. I had never done any interviews before as big as those and to experience that made me more comfortable to speak on occasions like that.
Sincerely,
Carla Fernandez
