For my career field research I chose to interview a CNA/nurse. I’ve always wanted to become a nurse and for this career field research. I Interviewed Nia Harris. She works in a hospital as a bedside nurse and she also is a CNA. Nia is currently still going to school while still working. She says it’s hard to balance but she tries to have time for everything she tries to find a happy medium. I asked Nia for advice on me beginning my nursing career. She suggested that I start as a CNA to take care of patients and become an aide before becoming a nurse so I will have experience when I actually start my career.
In college Nia took the classes Human anatomy 1, Human anatomy 2, and chemistry. She recommended that I take all my science classes first. I asked Nia what was the scariest experience while on the job. She told me about a time when one of her patients was on the ventilator and his trache had come out and the patient couldn’t breathe. She also told me about a very difficult time which was covid it was very hard for her and her coworkers dealing with so many deaths.
Then, I asked Nia what was her most favorite thing about her job. She said when patients are discharged because that means that they are stronger to go home and that they are better which is a good feeling. Nia recommended me to the volunteer program at her hospital which I definitely will be looking at. Nia made me more confident and excited about starting a nursing career and I can't wait til I start my journey.
